Yoga Soma

Yoga Soma

Trying to find a way to describe Yoga Soma has been, as my teacher Jason Shulman once said, (sort of) like trying to describe water to a fish. I have spent numerous mornings in various coffee shops - fueled by a good brew - trying to nail it down only to close my book thinking - 'no, that's not it either'. Therein I think, is the issue - the it-ness.

To date I have found no edges that clearly make Yoga Soma an 'it' without it being a 'some of  that too'.

My relationship to human anatomy; physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual and energetic, has been accrued over the years that I have been a healer and that relationship, like any other, belongs to me, makes me who I am and it defines my presence in the world. So Yoga Soma came about because I could see where all that I had learned and was still learning about healing and wholeness coalesced in the movement of the body; as an expression, a range of motion, a stance. As I became more practiced as a Yoga Teacher I naturally wove my knowledge and experience into my classes until I couldn't not teach this way.

In a Yoga Soma class I deliberately focus on this style, creating the right circumstances for the Alchemy that occurs when all these components for healing are present and a body is ready for that healing. All my Teachers are an intrinsic part of the work that I do as a Yoga Soma Teacher, their work and their Teachers too.

To this end some of my human Teachers are (in no particular order) Jason Shulman and Brenda Blessings of A Society of Souls, Berns Galloway and Peter Levine of the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute, Glenda Enagonio, Jenny Otto, Ashley Litecky Elenbass, the awesome Elias Lonsdale, the legendary Rosemary Gladstar and Teresa Boardwine. Laura Hollick has recently made the cut (how could she not) and Juliet Blankespoor too. The list continues to grow and I remain ever grateful to them all.

I am, of course, forever under the tutelage of Mother Earth and her stewards, the vast realms of Mother Nature and all my students and clients.
